Slushy_ Plays Aces Wild -Beta , a Manic Brawling Game

Awww Yeah , Aces Wild has such a great retro vibe you could be forgiven it was some lost Capcom classic from the 90's . The controls are slick, the graphics are reminiscent of watching a great anime and the soundtrack has that perfect cheesy rock feel.Check out some gameplay by a noob below and grab the download link.

Cloudberry Kingdom Tips From the Developer

Hey guys , some of you have been having trouble installing or playing Cloudberry Kingdom. I thought I would publish the letter the developer sent out with the beta keys , hopefully it will solve some of your problems out there.

Hail beta tester!

We're excited to finally get the beta rolling for Cloudberry Kingdom. We're making rapid progress on finishing the game, but we need your help to really polish it and make it shine.

We've just signed on an art studio to redo the game's art, so expect regular art updates moving forward. For now we want to focus the testing on the game play and general functionality. Let us know what's cool and what sucks, what's too easy and what's ridiculously impossible. We're really striving to make a game that can scratch everyone's itch for an awesome platformer.

Join us on reddit to talk trash, report bugs, make suggestions, or give us virtual hugs (aka programmer fuel) http://www.reddit.com/r/CloudberryBeta/

Your Steam beta key is:

Unfortunately, we are currently functional on PC only.

There are a couple of things you need to download before you can run the game. First you'll need the Microsoft .NET Framework 4, which you can find at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851 Second you'll need the XNA Framework 4.0 which you can find at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914

We're working on integrating an installer for these frameworks into the game, which should be ready by next week.

In order to use the beta key: open up Steam and click on the Game's tab, select "Active a product on Steam" and enter your beta key. That's it!

How to play:
Arrow keys move, duck, and jump. Press up to go through doors. Spacebar is quickspawn. Escape/Backspace will bring up the main menu or navigate backwards. Enter selects something on a menu. Enter during the game brings up the powerup menu.

A lot of menus say 'press A' or 'press X'. That's for the Xbox version (PC version coming soon). If you've got a gamepad you can plug it in and use it (you can plug FOUR in and play multiplayer!)

To customize you character, press the "H" key, and to randomize your character press "C"

What to play:
The game is a bit unstructured now. The campaign is still under construction, but the arcade games are good to go. We recommend starting with Escalation. Hero Rush is our favorite, but it's a bit confusing at first. We're still working on an intro-tutorial to smooth it out.

Updates to expect soon:
Optimizations! If the game is running slow on your computer, fear not! We are constantly streamlining our code, and already have a lot of optimizations in the pipeline for an update later this week.
Leaderboards! Think your score of 563,279 on Hero Rush is impressive? Wait until you see our programmer's 1,000,000+ scores show up on the leaderboard. We'll be announcing some beta tester only competitions in the coming week, so start training!
Prettiness! We've partnered up with Tigar Hare Studios, the guys that did cinematics for games like Call of Duty, Red Faction, and Lord of the Rings Online. Expect some awesome updates to the graphics over the next few months!
PC Version. Right now you're playing the 'Xbox' PC version. We're wrapping up the code for a real PC version, with mouse support, multiple resolutions, fullscreen/windowed options, and keyboard remapping. Expect this within a week.

I'm looking forward to getting feedback! I hope you enjoy the beta.

Cheers,
TJ Lutz, Team Lead and Community Manager

Slushy_ Previews Reflexio a Puzzle Platformer starring a Space Shifting ...

The generous folk at Box Jelly Fish Studios sent me a beta preview copy of Reflexio recently.
It stars a cute koala that posesses an umbrella with the ability to mirror your surrounding environment.
You must help Joey the koala navigate his way through 40+ clever levels using the umbrella to solve puzzles and collecting zippers as you go. I've been enjoying my time with Reflexio so far especially for the soundtrack. If you like puzzle games or are a sucker for cute platformers I recommend trying it out. There are still still minor tweaks being made before it debuts on xbox live and steam on May 1 but the five Cornell University Students who made this can already feel rightfully proud. EDIT: Reflexio now has a kickstarter campaign to help add more polish , go here for details.
Check out my initial play impressions below.

Barrington Plays "Eight days in Convoke"

Eight Days in Convoke is a physics-based arcade game that places you into the cockpit of an alien craft tasked with the abduction of unknowing human. Gently and thoughtfully apply thrust and rotation to your craft to counter gravity and fly through the noire themed levels.

Avoid dangers such as military grade AA Missile Launchers, fuel stealing EMP orbs, solid materials and the ever present threat of finite fuel. Pilot your way through 40 levels across 8 European countries, Abduct humans to progress and repeat levels in ever quicker completion times to unlock bonus stars. Master the levels, conquer the human race.

I would suggest this game to anyone looking for a decent challenge coupled with an excellent soundtrack which adds to the whole atmosphere of the game. You can buy this on Desura currently for 0.99c which is an absolute bargain.

The Floor is Jelly (IGF 2012 Trailer)

There a two types of people in this world. Check out this slightly old trailer , and don't get too jelly that you don't have it yet.

Aftershock Level 1 Work in Progress

It is in an early state of development but the video below already looks very promising.

Barrington Plays "Rin's Quest" a 3D Retro Adventure Game

For all those who were asking "When's Barrington's next video coming?" I am delighted to share with you Rin's Quest. Rin's Quest is a top down retro adventure game where you take control of Rin, whose girlfriend has been captured by an Evil Wizard.

Armed with your trusty bow "Alfred" (That's what I named it at least) you'll be fighting your way through hordes of scorpions, slimes and poison mushrooms,Rin's Quest will delight anyone looking for a challenging, nostalgic adventure, I enjoyed this quite a bit considering the controls take a little getting used to, Rin's Quest can be picked up at the Shabby Lords website for only $8.

Very Early Progress of Bort

Im a sucker for a good art style and this game has me interested for that reason alone XD , shallow I know.

Incredipede Trailer and Art Update

When I saw this trailer of Incredipede by Northway Games I was instantly a fan.
Then I found out the art from the video is being overhauled by Thomas Shahan and now
I can't wait to see the finished product.

Pond Gathering by Thomas Shahan

RPG with Robots , Dinosaurs and Zombies needs Fuding Support

From the mouth of the developer - Rainbow Nightmare Libra is a classic overhead RPG dungeon exploring for PC, along with sideview exploration. The game itself is about a Continent engulfed in war with a Machine Empire.

The main story is about a woman who isn't quite perfect. But when her friend has an illness she will do everything she can to find a cure. It sounds easy, but not when she has to travel into the heart of the Neon Empire with an odd assortment of comrades.

I don't have a gimmick or some over-the-top video pleading for your well earned tasty dollar bills. I don't feel like that is required. If my game can't generate your interest with a trailer of physical gameplay and unique designs then it does not deserve a donation.

I just think me in front of a webcam pleading and explaining the project takes away from the game itself.

The Game itself has a long way to go. I assure you all donations will be used for the game. If you want to follow the progress I urge you to follow my Tumblr page. I update regularly.

Preview of Tomes of Mephistopheles alpha 0.4

Tomes of Mephistopheles by Kot-in-Action is a first person dungeon crawling RPG that is in
its early alpha stage of development. It looks to have great potential already and is being updated regularly*. There are plans to add  a load of features including factions , crafting and spell customisation. With multiplayer being implemented in the last patch the potential for fun is definitely large and I recommend heading to the ToM forums to get involved in the discussion and see whats planned next.

*I would advise people to purchase this from Desura instead of the Dev's site just for the convenience of the auto updater , despite it being more expensive.

Made for the PEGJam 2012 using Flixel , Burgle is a fun little game by Matt Fox Games where the goal is to steal as much loot as you can from the house and make it out free. To complicate matters, valuables have different weights and Police will turn up on the scene to bust your ass. There are 2 different endings which are reportedly more satisfying than ME3's. Slushy_ Previews the Alpha of Bacillus by Milky Joe Games

Telling people you have spent the weekend trying to develop a super strain of bacteria that can live under even the harshest environmental conditions is not generally a good idea. Unless of course you are talking about playing the alpha build of Bacillus by Milky Joe Games which is going live on Kickstarter Feb 29. It's a unique game being developed by a one man team which deserves your support. The main concept of the game is you take control of a bacteria with the only goal of surviving. To do so you must adapt and evolve to a changing environment full of competing bacteria. You accomplish this by dividing your bacteria and focusing on those "offspring" that have favourable characteristics. While this may sound rather clinical it doesn't take long for you to become attached to your little family of unique bacteria and you will be surprised how saddening losing your favourite super strain can be. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the current build and recommend readers of this blog get behind this kickstarter.
Speaking of which , there are some cool benefits available for Kickstarter supporters including being able to design their own bacteria and getting in the credits for $1.With the plan being that Kickstarter funds will be used to polish the game and add features such as multiplayer. So check out this video, and head to the campaign page .

"Intruder" emphasises stealth , surveillance and strategy rather than reflexes and reaction times and will mark the introduction of the "balance" system. This allows players to be knocked over by explosions and projectiles creating potential game situations where players could play dead etc. It's still in its early stages of development but you can follow the development series on the Superboss Games youtube channel where they will be walking us through the changes and updates they make to this exciting new first person shooter.

Pixelry the Knight Simulator has gone into Alpha Funding

Welcome to  the world of pixelated chivalry, where your courage, your reflexes and fame will encourage you to reach the dream of every self-respecting knight, to marry the beautiful Princess. Pixelry is a knight Simulator which places you in control of an up and coming knight whose goal it is to marry the Princess of Pixelville but there is a catch. (Isn't there always?) To do this he must prove himself a skilled horseman by winning the championship of "The Big 5", recognized as the unbeatable knights of the realm.

How do I get this awesome game Barrington you say? well Pixelry has entered into Desura's Alpha Funding program where you can purchase the game as it develops, though Pixelry has an amazing amount of enthralling gameplay within it already the Developers Evelend Games are still adding large amounts of content to make Pixelry even more enjoyable.

So prepare your steed and ready your lance my fellow knights for the adventure that is Pixelry!
